Tomorrow we celebrate the Sunday after Ascension and also the end of the Christian Aid week. Ascensiontide is a season of waiting – in this case waiting for the Father’s promise, the baptism of the Spirit. The days between Ascension and Pentecost are precisely these days of waiting in hope.
This season of waiting is echoed across the world; we wait for the pandemic to be brought under control across the globe, and as we benefit from the vaccine success, we call to mind our sisters and brothers in the developing countries that have no such luxury. So even though Christian Aid week is at end, we are still called to support this charity who are committed to alleviating poverty by tackling its root causes.
Eirlys, Lindsay, Pete, myself and Zac the dog, are once again taking on the 300,000 step sponsored challenge by promising to walk 10,000 steps per day in May. Others are also raising funds doing it ‘their way’. You can sponsor us on the form in the porch in church or online https://giving.tapsimple.org/online/christian-aid/300-000-steps-in-may

For your prayers
Don King’s funeral is Thursday 20th May at West Lancs Crematorium. Please pray for his family and friends at this sad time and may they know the peace that the promise of eternal life brings.
Bishop Paul reminds us that all of us are weary after months of restriction, and we are sorely in need of the power of the Spirit, without which we can do nothing and invites us to prayerfully wait on God.
Thy Kingdom Come
for the past few years, the season between Ascension Day and Pentecost has been designated by the Archbishop of Canterbury precisely as a season of prayer: “Thy Kingdom Come”.
In the Diocese we are joining each evening in an act of corporate prayer. All are welcome to join this short act of focused prayer, online at 6pm every evening from May 13th to May 23rd. If you would like further details of this Thy Kingdom Come prayer event please email CentralServices@liverpool.anglican.org. Fuller details are on the Diocesan website here: https://www.liverpool.anglican.org/news-and-events/news/thy-kingdom-come-.php
To find out more about the national and international Thy Kingdom Come movement, and to access resources for your own church, see the attached document or visit this website: www.thykingdomcome.global.
Stay safe and be assured of my prayers.
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ
to have ascended into the heavens,
so we in heart and mind may also ascend
and with him continually dwell;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
With my love and blessings,
